Flexible Organic Electronics, OLED-Microdisplays and Sensors, Surface Technologies
Fraunhofer FEP is located in Dresden/Germany and focuses on developing innovative solutions, technologies and processes for surface modification and organic electronics. Our institute offers a broad range of R&D and pilot manufacturing opportunities, especially for the treatment, structuring and finishing of surfaces as well as for OLED microdisplays, organic and inorganic sensors, optical filters and flexible OLED lighting. At IDW '18 we present latest ultra-low-power OLED microdisplays for wearables with a novel concept for an extremely low power consumption and simplified driving electronics. Furthermore we will exhibit various other OLED microdisplays for AR and VR such as a new generation of large-area OLED microdisplays with a resolution of extended full HD 1920 x 1200 pixels, framerates of 120 fps and a screen diagonal of 1". Additionally we will present latest results in flexible organic electronics with various flexible OLED lighting demonstrators and about coatings of flexible products like ultra-thin glass and for permeation barrier films.
   
HIOKI E.E. CORPORATION
The Hioki RGB Laser Meter TM6102, RGB Laser Luminance Meter TM6103 and Optical Power Meter TM6104 will be on exhibit. The meters deliver many important features in the pursuit of accurate laser measurement, including a modulated light function and advanced calibration technology. The commonly-used tristimulus-value-direct-reading method cannot measure the chromaticity and photometric quantity of laser displays because the spectral sensitivity of XYZ filters do not provide sufficient accuracy. Our RGB laser measuring instruments use a different measurement principle characterized by separating the three colors into a single color, measuring the centroid wavelength and power of each laser and then calculating the photometric quantity and chromaticity. Furthermore, their white balance navigation function saves the effort of white balance adjustment work.

“Aerial imaging display with long focal distance by a retroreflective mirror array (Oz panel)” We have developed a retroreflective optical device (Oz panel) for realizing an aerial imaging display with a long protruding distance. The Oz panel has particular features with retroreflection in the horizontal direction and reflection in the vertical direction. Thus, the Oz panel can easily realize aerial images of real objects or 2D / 3D display images. We have developed an Oz panel with 2-meter protruding distance and demonstrate an aerial imaging display using it. We can also project images on the Oz panel with a projector, and you’ll experience a demonstration that combines an aerial image, real objects, and a video background. Please experience aerial imaging that jump out over long distances on a big screen. Our technology will be widely available for signages, guide boards, AR/MR,interaction technologies. We will also present technical details at 3Dp2-7L.

Introduction to direct-lit LED backlight suitable for local dimming
Our UniBriteR technology is able to immediately convert point light sources into surface light sources at close proximities. This technology is staring to be adopted for use in the backlight for televisions and automobile dashboards. Its special feature is that the technology enables the direct-lit LED backlight to be as thin as possible without shortening the pitch between diodes. Moreover, by positioning a combination of UniBrite and an optical sheet directly over LED it is possible to control the spread of light when a single LED is switched on without any drop in luminance, which in turn makes it easier to control liquid crystals when expressing contrast. This greatly reduces the number of LED required through the use of liquid crystals, enabling the realization of contrast and making the technology the one and only OLED counter method.

Speckle noise may seriously degrade the image quality of laser displays. Accurate speckle noise measurement is the first step in developing speckle reduction products. As speckle is the random laser interference pattern formed on the human eye retina, there is a need for devices that can simulate the human eye. Our speckle contrast measurement device, Dr. SPECKLE, is the only measurement system fully compliant with the international standard IEC 62906-5-2, and is highly evaluated as a quantitative measurement index of speckle noise. It was the first system to meet the latest measurement methods pursuant to the international standard IEC 62906-5-4 (measuring methods of color speckle) issued in January 2018. We will also be introducing an option that enables speckle measurements of white screens.

LCD Master is a comprehensive software for research and development of liquid crystal lenses and DOE and HOE using liquid crystals. The ray tracing software RAYs, RCWA for calculation of periodic structures, FDTD for complex structures, and optical calculations (2x2, 4x4) for propagating laminated structures ? all of these calculation solvers support anisotropy. Furthermore, as the interface that integrates them can be controlled using the Java language, it is possible to execute them in the user’s own system and further optimize the calculations. We provide a system that handles a wide range of sizes from nano to centimeter order at the same time.It is ideal for liquid crystal lens, VR/AR, and holographic development. Optipro-MCS is a device capable of measuring retardation such as Re and Rth in a range of 0 to 14,000 nm, and transmittance, luminance, chromaticity and polarization. These parameters can be measured at high speed.

The LT1000 is an ion impurity analyzer that detects both organic and inorganic ion impurity with extremely high sensitivity. It can detect even the most minute (in the parts per trillion (ppt) range) of ion concentrations in a substance. With more sensitivity and greater accuracy, there is less concern about getting a sub-optimal reading and more focus on achieving the optimal result. The high resolution and accuracy provide an ability for lab engineers and technicians to detect impurities in test materials that is unmatched in the industry.
Compared with other products in a similar class, the LT1000 can perform and complete a full test cycle in a second compared to conventional ion chromatography methods, which can take upwards of one hour. This is more than 3,600 times faster, allowing for a substantially larger number of tests to be performed over a given period of time. This accelerates lab analysis and helps shorten project development lead times.
